Preparation for Medical Appointment

  • Keep a record of stressful situations and your responses that relieve or perpetuate situations
  • Provide a complete medical history including blood relatives with stress-related physical or mental illness
  • List all medications including vitamins
  • Record any life changes or traumatic experiences that have occurred or are present in your life.
  • Research medications or treatments for relieving stress to discuss with your doctor.
  • Evaluate your lifestyle, and determine what activities could be removed to simplify your life. Ask a trusted friend or relative for their evaluation of your stress management.
  • Make office personnel aware of the extra time you will need for discussion when making your medical appointment. Knowing in advance the time requirements of your visit will not only provide you with adequate time, your doctor will be relieved to know he is not late for his next appointment.
